Elysium Station
The Gateway to the Sky
The sister city to the floating capital of Heliodor. Geographically within Eucaren, but considered under the jurisdiction of Heliodor, Elysium station was originally constructed with the express purpose of acting as a commerce and transportation hub for the capital. Being so centrally located and associated with the capital, it quickly grew into a small city in its own right. However it is extremely young for a city, and faces many issues that Heliodor does not due to its privilege as a flying city. These issues manifest as bandits, monsters, and overpopulation. Many people view it as part of the capital itself, but it has its own distinct citizens and culture that make it a unique city.
# Overview
| Aspect | Description |
|---|---|
| Main Opportunity | The city breathes in and out with the flow of the capital above. In the morning, workers flood out of the city to serve in Heliodor, and return to their homes at days end. Resources and important individuals flow through the station like a river. The humble city has an atmosphere of importance despite its size. |
| Main Challenge | The city lives in the shadow of Heliodor. Figuratively and literally. As much opportunity exists within Elysium Station, sometimes citizens can’t help but feeling lowly in comparison to the capital above. The desires and consumption of the grand capital can have unfortunate biproducts for the city below. Being an extremely young city, it is incapable of handling many of its problems with grace. |

# People Groups
| Group | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Nobility | Social Class | The wealthy members of the city, charged with the operation of the station. A small group of very proud individuals who see themselves as very important. However outside parties view them as those who either ‘didn’t quite make it’ to the capital, or those who are unfavored by more important nobility and are pushed out of the capital as punishment. |
| Commoners | Social Class | The vast majority. Those who either work to keep the station functioning, or are employed within Heliodor in some humble profession. Shop keepers, farmers, servants, guards, performers, airship crew, maintenance, janitorial, gardeners, and things of the like. Most people leave the city via the Skyferry at morning and return at dusk, but some face more complex shift work coming and going at odd hours. To work in the city above, one must acquire a special certification called a Flatkey. Which are small brass keys provided to workers who can go in and out of the city. |
| Beggars | Social Class | The few who have fallen on hard times, or come to the city in hopes to receive aid from generous nobility. Be it donation or employment. There are fanciful rumors about the great golden city where anyone can get help from the flying capital. However these were merely rumors stemmed from propaganda. Most who beg within the city are mistreated or ignored. They are pushed from view of coming and going nobles to the slum of Wide Side. |
| Slaves | Social Class | Those charged with significant crimes who are forced to work and serve in recompense. Not allowed in the city above. Jobs that would be performed by slaves in a typical city within Laenwalde are instead done by commoners within Heliodor. |

# Authority
The city is overlooked by Lord Segume Maude. Lord Maude is notably not a High Lord. The city is under the jurisdiction of the capital, Heliodor. Making the true power of the city King Tatelak II. However this is technically the case for all city’s of Laenwalde, so it doesn’t make much of a functional difference here. However the public opinion of the ruling powers within Elysium Station is that they do not posses true political sway. Many view them as if they are lowly compared to other nobility.
Lord Maude himself does well with the stations management. However he is surrounded by many rumors of him being resentful towards his position and the king.
# Laws
The city subscribes to the Laenwalde Laws
# Modern Importance
In modern day, the city is merely seen as a waypoint. Most don’t even consider it a true city.
# Historical Importance
It is the youngest city in all of The Three Corners even more so than Heliodor itself. Built to serve as a proxy and gateway for the flying city, Elysium Station finds itself growing slowly but surely as more and more opportunities emerge.
