Godkiller Chapter Summary - 37 - Doomed to Die
- Chapter begins on the night of the 44th of Spring, Annum 4466
- Our heroes were at camp, well into their difficult journey from Tenzentak to Holocene. It seemed their cargo, poor Lord Curtis Renaull, was doomed to die by The Trinity. Whether or not he deserved it. However, that wouldn’t stop The Street Dogs from trying to keep the young noble safe.
- Across the camp, the Mage Markenneth was recovering from a grievous wound from Blood, the assassin Warforged.
- During the man’s feverish sleep, our heroes decided to delve into his mysterious belongings where they discovered a journal detailing Markenneth’s research into a category of ancient weapons called Dragonbanes. Relics of great power.
- He seemed to think there was one in Holocene, and his defense of Curtis was solely to keep it from Lord VanVeld’s grasp.
- In the morning, the group spotted tracks from a goblin scouting party, and made for The Longstream.
- A makeshift raft was used to circumvent an ambush on the bridge. However, this didn’t stop Palce’s bandits from launching a ranged attack against you. Magnus’ might and a well timed Slaad attack helped you cross with only Curtis getting dipped once or twice.
- On the other side, the journey through Cliffover was no simpler. A lack of safe camp and evidence of nearby attackers keeping everyone on edge.
- Eventually the party began to notice statues in the woods. Carved in strange poses. It wasn’t till that night when Curtis was kidnapped by Goblins did the party figure out why.
- Pursing the attackers back to their camp, they found their medusa queen. A powerful creature who seemed to enjoy taking trophies of handsome, young travellers.
- Wasting no time The Street Dogs swung into action.
- Deimos and Cyrus snuck up close, gathering intel on the situation. Lord Renaull had been seated on a stage while the medusa bore down upon him.
- Magnus, leveraging his strong suits. Began running and yelling. Smashing through tents and huts, throwing the entire camp into chaos.
- Magnus suffered not only a volley of arrows, but a gaze from the Medusa itself. His powers barely saving him from the effect.
- Deimos, thinking quickly, fired a smoke arrow. Temporarily preventing the Medusa from using her power.
- Cyrus, knowing his cue when he sees it, snuck up on to stage to grab Curtis and run.
- Mal, Sherman, and a befuddled Markenneth finally caught up to Deimos’ position. The Dreadslayer quickly filled his companions in on the Medusa’s weaknesses.
- Mal, thinking quickly, formed a mirror of ice and passed it to Sherman.
- The warforged then fearlessly charged the fading cloud of smoke, mirror out.
- The Medusa petrified. Instantly.
